How to Achieve the Soft Glam Look

Soft glam makeup – a natural base with pops of color – is resurfacing! And the best part? The look is very obtainable, including for those who are busy or inexperienced with makeup. Want to try out some soft glam looks? Use these tips.

Proper Prep

Soft glam requires minimal product, which means you want your skin to be on point. Be sure to properly hydrate before applying any makeup. It’s time to bring out those serums and moisturizers!

Face First

Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted MoisturizerThe key to soft glam is a natural face. To achieve this, opt for lighter foundation coverage using a tinted moisturizer like Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer ($25, shop here) or a BB cream such as Maybelline New York Dream Fresh BB Cream ($8.99, shop here) as your base. If you need fuller coverage, be sure that your liquid foundation or similar product is a good match for your skin tone.

If you want a bronzer, we recommend applying it very lightly across the areas where the sun naturally hits your face. If you want to contour, keep it subtle, and make sure it is blended well. Keep any highlighter or blush minimal.

Soft glam lips can mean a few different things. If you’re not a fan of lipstick, or you want the focal point of your face to be your eyes, opt for a clear gloss like this one from Glossier ($14, shop here). If you want your lips to be the main attraction, bring in a bold color! If you need some color but want to keep it soft, go for a natural shade or a light pink.

Brows

Instead of bold, sculpted brows, opt for a natural appearance. A light brow powder is a good bet for pulling this off if your eyebrows need a little help.

Eyes

Some makeup artists prefer neutrals for the eyes with a soft glam look. Others, like Katie Jane Hughes, say any color, even pastel goes. No matter the color you choose, add some shimmer!katie jane hughes instagramThere are a few application techniques to keep in mind: First, forget everything you know about cut creases and clean lines. Soft glam eyes are a bit more haphazard, so cover the full eye, then blend out at the edges naturally. No eyeliner is required. Instead, pack on the mascara. You want your lashes to be voluminous!

Spritz Away

E.l.f. Cosmetics‘ Dewy Setting MistYour setting spray is key here. You want glowing skin, so don’t use the matte variety. Instead, look for a setting spray like that offers a dewy finish, such as E.l.f. Cosmetics‘ Dewy Setting Mist ($10, shop here). Apply it generously, let it dry, and go about your day!

Makeup trends come and go, but we say soft glam should stay! This style is so achievable and accessible – even on a tight schedule. Use these tips to try out your own soft glam makeup look.
