Feeling Blah? Here’s How to Boost Your Motivation (Even When You Really Don’t Want To!)

It’s been a rough few years for many people, so know that if you’re feeling stuck or struggling to find motivation, you are not alone. Even if you don’t necessarily feel like boosting your motivation, here are a few ways to do just that.

Figure Out the Why

If you’re feeling blah, ask yourself why. Sometimes, it helps to write down your thoughts and feelings until you come up with some answers (like big changes that have affected your life or stressors that have made things feel out of control).

Plan One Small Treat Every Day

Small changes lead to significant differences, so do something every day that brings you joy. Whether it’s 30 minutes to read your book or listen to a favorite podcast, it must be something healthy to do that makes you happy.

Introduce a Challenge

Learning something new can be highly motivating, and the only way to do that is to challenge yourself. No matter what you’re working toward, setting up some milestones along the way can help you improve your skills, feel re-energized, and bring you one step closer to success.

Speaking of Success, Stop Visualizing It

We’re often told to visualize our success, but we tend to overlook all the hard work required. Instead, visualize the steps you need to take to reach your goals, the challenges you may face, and how you’ll overcome them. Decide if it’s really what you want before you give yourself the Go Ahead, and don’t look back!

Get Some Fresh Air

Stepping outside and taking a few deep breaths is magical. Sometimes, all we need is a quick change of scenery to realign ourselves.

Try Time-Blocking

Time management can be challenging to master, and feeling like you are constantly running in circles can be frustrating. To make the most of your time, try time-blocking your day.

Try That New Hobby Out

Sometimes, when you feel stuck, you are actually just bored. Trying something new may be just what you need. This hobby doesn’t need to become a side hustle (although it totally can); all it has to be is fun and challenging.

Take a Break

If all else fails, step away from the task at hand for a few minutes. You can’t expect to feel motivated every second of every day. It’s normal to need time to reset and refocus.

Make the Mundane Tasks Fun

If you’re in the funk of all funks but still have a lot to do, think about how to make mundane tasks fun. Go with your bestie to the grocery store, or binge your latest Netflix obsession as you fold that mountain of laundry.
