Who Pays for Your Child’s Business Expenses?

What does a talent agent pay for? Nothing. It’s you who pays the agent, and what you pay is a 10 percent commission for union work and a 20 percent commission for booking a non-union job. Establishing your child’s career is just like setting up any other business. You’ll be investing in acting classes, headshots and travel. These are expenses that can be written off your taxes when your child is hired for a role or commercial.

Once you’ve found an agency to represent your child, don’t expect that agent to pay for travel to auditions or professional headshots or any of the other business expenses. When your child books a job that requires travel, you may find the production company will pick up the tab to get your child to the location.
