Beach and pool weather is so close, we can taste it! To say we’re ready to soak up some rays (preferably with a fruity drink in hand) is an understatement, which means we need to start bathing suit shopping! Let’s look at what swimwear trends we can expect this summer.

We want to shout from the rooftops that tankinis are back because we lived for these in the 2000s. Tankinis aren’t just boy shorts with spaghetti-strap tops anymore. You can find them with halter tops, triangle tops, bikini bottoms, and more. They are the perfect swimsuit for vacation, especially if you plan to pop in and out of a hotel lobby or walk around a resort. All you have to do is throw on a sarong or pair of shorts, and you’re fully dressed!

Our Pick: PrAna Jess Reversible Tankini ($85, shop here) with Gemma Reversible Bottom ($55, shop here)

Strappy Bikinis

There is something so chic about strappy swimwear – though we can only imagine what the tan lines look like. Whether you like bright and bold colors or dreamy pastels, you can find exactly what you’re looking for in a strappy suit.

Our Pick: F E L L A Winston Bikini Top ($145, shop here) with Rick James Bikini Bottom ($75, shop here)

Shimmery swimwear gives us just a little bit more than a basic swimsuit, making it perfect for vacation, beach parties, or just an extra-sparkly Instagram post. If you’re looking for a way to dress it up, create some juxtaposition by offsetting the glitter with an oversized chambray top, denim shorts, and layered jewelry.

Our Pick: Beach Riot X Revolve Camilla Bikini Top ($108, shop here) with Island Bikini Bottom ($80, shop here)

If you want to look like a beach town local about to catch a gnarly wave, then you’ve gotta go with a wetsuit. They are super-sleek and now come with delicate patterns or cutouts that make them appear a little more feminine.

Our Pick: Cupshe Tyra Blue Criss-Cross Long-Sleeve One-Piece Swimsuit ($33.99, shop here)

Smooth Like Velvet

Summer will be full of interesting textures, and the most exciting for us is velvet swimwear. It gives us big boho vibes and makes us think of that dress in My Date With the President’s Daughter. You know the one. We’re here for both.

Our Pick: Sauipe Zoe Blush Velvet Swimsuit ($220, shop here)
