I Tried Drunk Elephant—Here’s What I Thought

This past year, I’ve been way more conscious about what I put in and on my body. I’m sure you’ve heard the term “clean beauty” a lot lately. People are becoming more and more aware of the toxic chemicals in our everyday beauty and hygiene products. You’d think there’d be more regulation on these chemicals, but there’s not. It’s up to the consumer to look at labels and do research when buying a product. What you put on your skin ends up being absorbed into your body and may even enter your bloodstream.

Along came my search for a clean beauty brand with all of the products I wanted to replace—a daily SPF, serums, and a night-time moisturizer. In my research, I came across the skincare brand Drunk Elephant.

Drunk Elephant “Focuses on healthy pH levels, formulations the skin recognizes, small molecular structure that’s easily absorbed, and effective active ingredients that also support and maintain the skin’s acid mantle. But what we leave out of our products is just as important as what we put into them, so you will never find what we call the Suspicious 6™ (essential oils, drying alcohols, silicones, chemical sunscreens, fragrances/dyes, SLS) in our line.”

Which Drunk Elephant Products I Incorporated into my Routine

I ordered the Umbra Sheer SPF 30 sunscreen (click here), C-Firma Vitamin C Day Serum (click here), and the Protini Polypeptide Cream (click here). Yes, these products are expensive, but good and effective skincare can be worth the price tag. Everyone’s skin is different, and we all have different skin concerns, so you may want to consult your dermatologist or esthetician to determine what your skincare needs are. Drunk Elephant also offers mini sizes of their products, so you don’t have to shell out a bunch of cash on something that’s not right for your skin.

I like to wait at least 30 days before deciding whether a new product is worth repurchasing. Since my skin is sensitive. whenever I switch to a new product, I run a big chance of a dermatitis breakout on my face. This, shockingly, didn’t occur when I switched to Drunk Elephant. I layered the C-Firma Vitamin C Day Serum under my Sun Defense moisturizer during the day and used the Protini Polypeptide Cream at night. I did add a drop or two of facial oil into my night cream for extra moisture.

The Results

After 30 days, my skin is soft. Baby soft to the point where I find myself feeling my face throughout the day. SPF is a must every day, even if you don’t plan on going outside—don’t skimp on it. The vitamin C serum gives you extra defense against the sun and pollutants in the environment. Consider these two your armor for the day. If you have skin that leans towards the drier side, the Protini cream is that dose of deep moisture your skin craves. It promises revived-looking skin, and I can definitely say I look refreshed when I wake up in the morning.

Drunk Elephant is now a must-have for my skin. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth the price tag? For me, yes. These products work for my sensitive and semi-dry skin. They’ve been so effective that I’m looking into adding the night serum into my skincare routine. All in all, Drunk Elephant is a major win for clean beauty.
