Five New Books We Can’t Wait to Read

The Butcher and the Wren by Alaina Urquhart ($27, shop here)

Alaina Urquhart-White, co-host of the true-crime podcast Morbid Podcast, blends genres of crime fiction and thriller in her book The Butcher and the Wren. The story takes place in the Louisiana bayou, where forensic pathologist Dr. Wren Muller and a methodical serial killer reside. The cases are piling up on Muller’s examination table, quickly sucking him into a cat-and-mouse game with a ruthless murderer.

Bindle Punk Bruja by Desideria Mesa ($17.99, shop here)

Writer, poet, and songwriter Desi Mesa’s new book, Bindle Punk Bruja, follows the main character, Luna (Rose), an immigrant who hides her identity to pursue her dream of owning an illegal jazz club. She is a bruja with growing magical abilities who can’t resist a good fight. When she finds herself surrounded by greed and bigotry, she’s unsure if her magic will be enough to save her friends and family. She has to learn to trust and have faith in others.

Shrines of Gaiety by Kate Atkinson ($29, shop here)
