Five-Minute Mood Boosters

Self-care is important, but if you’re feeling burned out, chances are, you don’t have a lot of free time. If this is the case, try one or all of these five-minute mood boosters!

Treat Yourself

Do you love coffee? Or gelato? Or chocolate? Grab that treat for a quick pick-me-up. But what’s even more important than finding your treat is taking the time to enjoy it. Head to a quiet, calming place to savor your snack. Don’t rush through it, and don’t you dare think about your to-do list.

Take a Walk

A quick stroll around the block, in your favorite park, or along a local trail can change your outlook for your entire day. Our bodies love exercise, fresh air, and sunlight, so this is sure to make you feel physically and mentally better. A walk allows you to unplug and give your mind time to organize your thoughts or plan your personal goals. Use this alone time to get inspired and excited.

Sip on It

Studies show that warm drinks can help with mood boosts. Try taking sips of coffee, chai tea, or herbal tea. Another option? Wine! If the time is right, pour yourself a glass. Studies also show that the plant compound resveratrol, which is found in red wine, can block enzymes linked to stress, depression, and anxiety. No matter your beverage of choice, the way you sip it is key: Take time to sit down, get cozy, and fully enjoy.

Don’t Be Afraid to Zone Out

It is totally acceptable to zone out and just think about nothing for a while. You might want to sit in silence or have a podcast or TV show on in the background.

You can tackle burnout and boost your mood without dumping hours into self-care activities. Even the busiest people can (and should) take five minutes every so often to unplug from work and their social lives. You can use these tips to get started.
