Cookie-Cutter Formulas Don’t Define the Beauty of These Celebs

Beauty is not just the sum of perfect body parts aligned with mathematical precision into flawless symmetry. Some of the most beautiful celebrities are women who live with imperfections. They show us there’s room in the lexicon of beauty for facial scars and bushy eyebrows, different-colored eyes and hair that’s gracefully aged into silver. Often, we think their flaws enhance rather than distract us from their beauty. Here are a few celebs whose attractiveness isn’t defined by cookie-cutter formulas.

Anna Paquin

Confidence is the reason that a gap between her two front teeth works for Anna Paquin. ‘It doesn’t really bother me. I would only change it if it made me blend into a wider range of roles,’ she told People in 2011.

Padma Lakshmi

This Top Chef won’t cover up her scar while the cameras roll for her TV show. A car accident at the age of fourteen left her with a seven-inch scar from on her right arm between her elbow and her shoulder. “My body is a blueprint of my life, of every tragedy — emotional or physical. I love my scar. It is so much a part of me,” she told BravoTV. “I’m not sure I would remove it even if a doctor could wave a magic wand and delete it from my arm. The scar has singled me out and made me who I am.”

Kate Bosworth

One blue eye and one hazel eye make Kate Bosworth’s gaze even more entrancing. The hereditary condition called heterochromia iridum is responsible.

Jamie Lee Curtis

Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Dench and Helen Mirren may have nothing more in common than their occupation as actresses and their striking grey hair. This trio proves that there’s no more beautiful hair color than silver.

Lea Michele

Lea Michele heard a lot about how her large nose would prove a hindrance in her TV career. She didn’t believe the naysayers, and her confidence may be traced to her mother’s invoking Barbra Streisand. Lea was opposed to rhinoplasty from a young age.  “I was one of the only girls in my high school that didn’t get one. And if anybody needed it, I probably did. But my mom always told me, growing up, ‘Barbra Streisand didn’t get a nose job. You’re not getting a nose job.’ And I didn’t…That’s why I’m proud to be on a positive show and to be a voice for girls and say, ‘You don’t need to look like everybody else. Love who you are.’”

Tilda Swinton

Tilda’s androgynous look hasn’t held her back in Hollywood. If anything, she’s capitalized on her visually striking appearance and scored roles that demanded amazing transformations.

Tina Fey

Do you even notice the scar a few inches long on the left side of her chin and cheek? “I proceeded unaware of it. I was a very confident little kid,” Tina told Vanity Fair. “It’s really almost like I’m kind of able to forget about it, until I was on-camera.” Her audience thinks it is just another part of her beautiful face.

Lily Collins

Lily may sport significant eyebrows, but she’s not the first Hollywood celeb to leave them bold and beautiful and avoid plucking and tweezing. Give Brooke Shields credit for starting the trend years ago. The look has been picking up speed lately in fashion magazines and on the street.
