Do You Need a Lash Lift?

Some of us are born with long, curly eyelashes, while others have lashes that just won’t stay up evenly. Sure, we can always use falsies or even get lash extensions to get the perfect look, but falsies can be difficult to manage, and lash extensions are a lot of maintenance. A lash lift may be the solution to our woes!

Understanding Lash Lifts

A lash lift is essentially a perm for your eyelashes: a semipermanent way of achieving the appearance of thick, curled lashes. When you get a lash lift, your natural lashes are boosted from the root, making them seem longer without leave-on chemicals. When you get your lashes lifted, you can also have them tinted darker, increasing the effect of the lift.

The Lash Lift Process

So how does it all work, and what should you expect? Anticipate a consult upon arrival; your aesthetician will want to know what look you desire before starting the process. Based on your answers, they will know what size curling rod to use for your lashes.

Before starting the lifting process, your aesthetician will clean your eye area, then place a silicone rod on the eyelid. They then curl the lashes over and attach them to the rod via adhesive. Next, they apply a lifting lotion to allow the lashes to shape around the curling rod. Lastly, they apply a setting lotion to hold the lash shape.

How Long Does a Lash Lift Last?

According to PMUhub, a lash lift can last anywhere between 4-6 weeks with appropriate aftercare. Another factor to keep in mind is your eyelash growth cycle. If your lashes grow quickly, the lash lift may not last as long as it does for others.

Lash Lift Aftercare

While you can’t control how quickly your lashes grow, you can make sure you follow your aesthetician’s aftercare instructions, which include:

  • No mascara for 48 hours after the lift.
  • No makeup or water should come in contact with your eyes for 24 hours.
  • Don’t touch your eyelashes, especially on the day of treatment.
  • Avoid using skincare oils or too much product around the eyes.
  • Don’t use eyelash curlers.
  • Avoid using waterproof mascara.

Cost and Lash Lift Types

Expect to spend anywhere between $90 to $200. The price depends on where you live, your aesthetician, and whether you choose a keratin lash lift or an LVL (length-volume lift). A keratin lash lift entails using a silicone rod covered in keratin for about 8 minutes. An LVL lift is done with a wand and can take about 45 minutes to complete. Whichever method you choose, you’ll leave with beautifully curled lashes.
