Oman
If you have yet to travel to the Middle East, Oman is a great place to start! It has a rich heritage, embracing society, and one of the most pristine coastlines in the world! Start by visiting the capital, Muscat, home to the incredible Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Royal Opera House, and Bahla Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then, set out on a road trip to visit some of the water-filled valleys (known as wadis) that are perfect for swimming.
Mauritius
With five-star resorts, incredible powder-white beaches, unmatched scuba diving, and colonial plantation homes, the tiny island of Mauritius is a truly one-of-a-kind destination. It’s the perfect place for exploration if you want a mix of resort and island life. You can relax by the beach or go hiking in the mountains. It is also known for its culinary specialties and culture in the small fishing villages.
Belize
Offering turquoise shores, reefs, cays, 100 types of coral, and the out-of-this-world Blue Hole, Belize is a water lover’s paradise. Belize also offers several national parks and wildlife sanctuaries hosting jaguars, baboons, and more. Learn about the ancient Mayan culture with a trip to archaeological sites (like the Xunantunich Maya temple) or go zip-lining through the rainforest. Puerto Rico
If you prefer not to leave the boundaries of the United States, then head to the island paradise of Puerto Rico, where you can find a fusion of Caribbean delights, amazing food, relaxing beachings, surfing, and much more – no passport required! There are numerous resorts but also plenty of apartments and Airbnbs to stay in as well. Be sure to have a meal at one of the many lechoneras, and don’t miss meandering the streets of Old San Juan for its historic fortresses and colorful colonial buildings.
