It’s possible to obtain a passport in less than two to three weeks if you’re traveling or need a foreign visa within four weeks. If your travel is a life or death emergency, you can get a passport immediately.
For a two to three-week time frame, you’ll need to head to a passport agency or center. Make an appointment before you go – you can make an appointment online or on the phone by calling the U.S. Department of State at 1 (877) 487-2778 or 1 (888) 874-7793. You’ll need to fill out an application and provide documents as proof that you are traveling in the next few weeks or need a foreign visa within the next four weeks.
If you can’t make the trip yourself to the passport agency or center, hire a courier service to submit your expedited passport application.
You can get a passport in three business days if there is serious illness, injury, or death in your immediate family. Call the State Department to make an appointment for emergency passport service. You’ll need a signed letter from a hospital or medical professional, a death certificate or a statement from a mortuary.
