How to Maximize Your Energy During the Workday

If you’re looking to make the most of your energy throughout your workday, here are a few helpful tips!

Prioritize

There is undoubtedly a time a day when you hit your peak energy levels. You should identify when this is and fill this time with tasks that require higher energy or increased concentration.

Build in Breaks

It’s so important to give yourself time to step back and refresh during the day – even if it’s just for five minutes. Taking breaks allows your brain to reset and prevents you from overworking to the point of burnout. Listen to your body. If you need a break, go ahead and take one.

Food Matters

If you skip breakfast or lunch, you automatically set yourself up for a lower-energy day. Food is fuel, and it’s hard to function without it. For this reason, make sure you have a nutritious breakfast, pack healthy snacks to eat throughout the day, and enjoy a balanced lunch.

Ditch the Caffeine

While caffeine may give you the instant pick-me-up you need in the morning, it may also be contributing to your mid-afternoon slump as its effects dissipate. Moreover, drinking caffeine later in the day can affect your sleep schedule, which will only perpetuate your need for it the following day. Try to wean yourself off slowly and see if it affects your energy levels.

Take a Walk

If you don’t have time to hit the gym during lunch, taking a walk is a great alternative. Walks can raise your energy levels while providing you with a mental health break from work. When you return to the office, you’ll be refreshed and reenergized.

Invest in a Standing Desk

Many experts recommend investing in standing desks. In one 2011 study, 87% of participants who switched to standing desks reported increased energy throughout the day. It’s good for your posture, too!
