Our Favorite Netflix Comedy Specials

Whether we are in good spirits or currently struggling a bit emotionally, turn to comedy for enjoyment. And where better to get our laughter fix than Netflix?! Here are a few of our favorite Netflix comedy specials that we encourage you to watch!

Ali Wong: Baby Cobra

Ali Wong is a diamond in the rough. And while we love all her stand-up shows, this 2016 special (her first) holds a unique place in our hearts. Wong brings an energy to the stage that cannot be matched as she jokes about her then-husband, pregnancy, and everything in between. Watch the trailer here.

Trevor Noah: Son of Patricia

The Daily Show host Trevor Noah has a few comedy specials, but our favorite is Son of Patricia, his second special. In this 2018 special, named after his mom, Noah is straightforward and hilarious as he muses about rap music, racial history in America, his first time eating tacos, and more. Once you’re done with Son of Patricia, be sure to check out his other specials, too. Watch the trailer here.

Christina P: Mom Genes

Christina P brought us a gem of a comedy special this year with Mom Genes. It is one of the best stand-up specials of 2022, and we cannot recommend it enough. She talks about her dad in the most over-the-top fashion, jokes about the ups and downs of motherhood, and shares so much more about herself in hilarious fashion. Watch the trailer here.

Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King

Hasan Minhaj released Homecoming King in 2017. Through his comedy style, he brings storytelling to stand-up in a whole new way. In this special, Minhaj discusses his childhood, family, and experience as an Indian American. Be prepared for pictures, a lot of laughter, and some sweet and vulnerable moments. Jenny Slate: Stage Fright

Stand-up and throwback videos mixed into the perfect hybrid special? Ah, yes. That is exactly how to describe Jenny Slate’s 2019 special Stage Fright. We get to see a personal side of Slate while also laughing at her jokes about her anxiety, sexuality, the patriarchy, and other topics you do not want to miss. We love everything about it! Watch the trailer here.

John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City

By now, you have likely heard of John Mulaney, but if you haven’t, we urge you to hurry up and watch Kid Gorgeous at Radio City. In this 2018 stand-up special, Mulaney touches upon visiting the zoo, “stranger danger” assemblies, captchas, college, and aging. Watch the trailer here.
