Staying organized at home is no easy task. These tips and tricks can help!
Take on One Section at a Time
It can be pretty overwhelming to think about everything in your home that needs to be cleaned or organized. For this reason, look at the project on a section-by-section basis. This could mean doing the office one day, the bedroom the next, and the kitchen after that – or however else makes sense to you. The bottom line is that it shouldn’t (and doesn’t have to) be tackled all at once.
Label Your Bins
If you’re dealing with a relatively large storage space, you have many containers that look similar. Labeling allows you to know where everything is and easily access items when you need them. See-through bins are also helpful, as they let you see what’s inside each container without opening them.
Invest in a Shredder
Paper shredders are designed to get rid of documents that you don’t want to have information stolen from, but they also provide you a way to dispose of outdated files. A small, convenient paper shredder can help you remove clutter that might otherwise be taking over your workspace.
Implement a “One In, One Out” Rule
Oftentimes, we think of cleaning as the process of getting rid of items, but we rarely think about what it means for new items. As a general rule, for every new thing you get, you should probably be getting rid of an old one. This will declutter your space while allowing room for new items to move in.
Ditch the Obligation
Were you ever given a gift that just wasn’t you? It most likely has ended up in the back of a closet or deep in a storage bin. But if an item isn’t going to be used, there is no point in holding onto it just because you feel obligated.
Become a Creature of Habit
When it comes to keeping things clean, repetition is key. Have a designated space to store every item and make it a habit of putting items back where they belong. This will keep you consistently organized without having it pile up.
