How to Find Cheap Flights for Summer 2022

Summertime is notorious for expensive flights, but that doesn’t mean cheaper ones aren’t available. You just have to know where to look! Use these tricks to find great airfare deals this summer.

Be Flexible

You will have a much better chance of getting a cheap flight if you are flexible with your dates and destinations. Although you might have a travel spot in mind, the best way to get less expensive flights is to see what prices are available to different places from where you live for an entire month. Google Flights can give you a good idea of the prices for various destinations and dates.

Use the Google Flights Explore Map

Google Flights also allows you to put an entire region – or up to seven airports – in its departure and arrival fields. This means you can choose nearby airports to your desired destination to see if the prices are cheaper. You can also use the Google Flights Explore Map, which allows you to look at all of the flights available on a specific date or within a certain time period.

Use Different Flight Search Sites

Different travel sites often showcase different prices, so always do a cross-check of Google Flights, Priceline, and Momondo. You can also use ITA Matrix, which can get a bit complicated but has some killer deals. If you are considering domestic travel, go directly to Southwest’s website; the airline’s flights don’t appear in search engines.

Travel on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday

If all else fails, look to fly on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday. These are usually the cheapest days to travel, while Friday and Sunday are typically the most expensive.

Think About Value Versus Comfort

Budget airlines are not always the most comfortable way to fly, but you will likely spend less on your ticket by booking with Spirit, Avelo, Breeze, or Ryanair. Just be sure to take into account additional fees for checked bags and carry-ons.
