Millennials Lead the 2018 Vacation Charge

Millennials are leading the way on family vacations this year as an estimated 88 million Americans plan to take to the road. AAA Travel recently conducted a study and found 44 percent of Millennials are planning to pack up and go in 2018, while 39 percent of Generation Xers are charting family vacations and 32 percent of baby boomers are embracing getaways.

Domestic road trips by car are in the works for almost 65 percent of families surveyed by AAA Travel, with 35 percent saying they plan international travel. Families are increasing the number of trips they take each year, according to AAA Travel. The next 12 months will see one in four families planning three or more family vacations.

About 73 percent of surveyed families are researching trips to destinations they have not previously explored. Among those seeking new experiences, some 61 percent are looking for beaches and mountains, while 59 percent are contemplating opportunities for sightseeing and 56 percent just want to get away to a place offering relaxation.

The top five destinations offer a combination of attractions. They are Hawaii, the Eastern Caribbean, Italy, U.S. National Parks and any Disney destination, according to survey.

Long considered a top choice among honeymooners, Hawaii can be a fun destination for families with children. Traveling to the island getaway is a pleasure free from the hassle of passports, customs, or dealing with currency exchanges.

Eastern Caribbean cruises provide impressive value for families on limited travel budgets. Cruises charge one set price for lodging, food, activities and transportation to the faraway Eastern Caribbean.

Italy welcomes children to a rich mix of historical and cultural sights as well as a wide range of outdoor activities set in stunning natural landscapes. Families exploring Italy will find that cities such as Rome are kid-friendly and the coasts are laced with beaches.

U.S. National Parks beckon families with the irresistible lure of incredible surroundings. From turquoise lakes to rugged coastline, from the spectacular views of the Grand Canyon to the geysers of Yellowstone, families find U.S. National Parks exhilarating.

Exciting experiences always await families visiting Disneyland® Resort, Walt Disney World® or any one of Disney’s popular destinations. An excursion with Adventures by Disney® or visit to Disney’s newest property in Oahu, the Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa, in Ko Olina, Hawaii are among the newest Disney offerings.
