While denim jackets, skirts, and jeans never seem to go out of style, they do adapt to trends and timing. While we’re not quite ready to ditch our ’90s-inspired high-rise cuts just yet, we have been keeping our eyes on the changes in denim as Y2K fashion steadily resurges. Here are a few of today’s trends that will give you serious early-2000s flashbacks!
The Lowest of Low Rises

Get ready for the world to see your hip bones once again – because Paris Hilton’s beloved low-rise jeans are currently hitting store shelves. These extra-low jeans were worn in the 2000s as boot-cut styles paired with tunics or cropped tees; today, you can also find them in skinny and baggy versions.
Double Denim

The denim-on-denim look (aka the Canadian tuxedo) was once a fashion faux pas, but it has also been a desirable look, especially in the 2000s when the material was seen in dresses, jackets, skirts, and accessories. The trend is back yet again! Are you ready to rock the fabric head-to-toe like Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears?
Denim Minis

Denim miniskirts have made plenty of appearances in trends over the years, but none quite like the early 2000s. And this look is coming back – or maybe it never really left? Try pairing your denim mini with a camisole or tunic – bonus points if it’s frilly or lacy. You’ll be channeling your inner Y2K “it” girl in no time flat.
Plenty of Patches

Patchwork is another 2000s denim trend making a steady comeback. During its prime, patchwork denim was bold with a variety of textures, shapes, and washes all rolled up into the same garment, making for a very interesting outfit. Today, the trend is subtler. Our favorite looks include mom jeans with patches and denim jackets with color blocking.
Funky Flares

Gen Z has been telling us: Skinny jeans are out. Instead, we see store racks populated with boot-cut styles and wide, flared legs. The key to wearing these styles is to select the right shoes. We recommend pointed-toe heels or booties.
