It’s no secret that social media is full of diet ads, “skinny” products, and influencers with seemingly perfect bodies. But these same social media platforms are also full of stretch marks, stomach rolls, and muscles.
To embrace a more body-positive lifestyle, start by unfollowing Instagram accounts that promote diet culture and instead following those that celebrate bodies from all walks of life. If you aren’t sure where to start, here are just a few of our favorite body-positive Instagram accounts to follow.
Louise Green (@louisegreen_bigfitgirl)
Louise Green is a size-inclusive fitness expert who helps people get stronger, not necessarily smaller. If you like all of the training plans, tips, and coaching, you can also check out Green’s book, Big Fit Girl: Embrace the Body You Have ($16.95, shop here)
Alissa Rumsey MS, RD, CSCS (@alissarumseyrd)
Alissa Rumsey is a dietician spreading the word about fatphobia. Nothing is “wrong” with our bodies; the problem lies in how society perceives our bodies. Her account includes tons of tips and a slew of resources, including book recs, meal ideas, and live interviews.
Jessamyn Stanley (@mynameisjessamyn)
Yogis, this one is for you. Jessamyn Stanley is the self-proclaimed “Ms. Frizzle of Yoga.” But the credentials don’t end with yoga teacher. She is also an author and advocate for inclusive wellness. If you’ve ever felt like you have to look a certain way to do yoga, Stanley will squash that preconceived notion.
Shira Rose (@theshirarose)
Shira Rose is a licensed clinical social worker, eating disorder therapist, and body-positive style blogger whose posts often discuss weight stigma, eating disorder recovery, the diet industry, diverse body types, and more.
Ragen Chastain (@ragenchastain)
Ragen Chastain is an activist, professional speaker, writer, ACE-certified health coach, and athlete. Her posts tend to be about the harms of weight bias, promoting size acceptance, and weight-neutral healthcare, empowering you to accept and love your body no matter where you are on your health journey.
