How can we make our living spaces warm and comfy when the winter temperatures just don’t want to let up? Here are some tips!
Invest in an Electric Fireplace
If your home isn’t equipped with a real fireplace, that’s okay! Electric fireplaces (which are now more affordable and eco-friendly than ever) generate a good amount of heat and can make your space a lot more comfortable.
Place Throw Blankets & Pillows Throughout Living Areas
It doesn’t matter if you’re riding solo or hanging with others: The living room is a place where you want to cuddle up on the sofa. What better way to make it cozier than by adding some soft, fluffy blankets and pillows? Then, you can curl up and watch your favorite movie, read a good book, or take a nap whenever you want!
Rearrange Furniture for a More Intimate Setup
To make your living room cozier, try setting your furniture up in a more intimate layout; that means creating a communal area where the seats and couches are shifted toward one another. Try to keep the seating area away from walls and windows. You don’t have to go too far out, but a good few inches will prevent you from feeling any unwanted drafts.
Bring In a Few House Plants
Plants have an uncanny way of cheering us up during the colder months. They give you something to take care of and purify the air inside your home. If you’ve never cared for a house plant before, start slow and pick a plant that doesn’t need a lot of upkeep, like a succulent.
Designate a Hot Beverage Station
Instead of just keeping a pot out on the kitchen counter for when you’re ready to make a hot beverage, why not create an entire hot beverage station? Gather coffee, tea bags, cups, spoons, and extra ingredients and place them on a delicate rack near your Keurig or espresso machine. Guests will love this – and you’ll never want to get rid of it.
Prioritize Soft Lighting Over Bright Lights
Softer lighting naturally provides a warmer, more relaxed environment – perfect for winter. If you like to have bright lights sometimes too, opt for a dimmer switch. You’ll get the best of both worlds without having to constantly switch out the bulbs.
Add Seasonal Candles or Incense
In the winter, we need relaxing, feel-good scents that make us feel at home. Try soothing lavender, evergreen, or vanilla.
