Trends to Thrift This Season

What’s better than rocking the latest fashion trends? Rocking them sustainably (and budget-friendly), of course. Enter your local thrift store because we’re about to dive into the hottest thrift-able trends.

Jeans

$50 to $70 at American Eagle? Up to $265 at Nordstrom? We think not. We all know that skinny jeans are “old” and baggy jeans are in – thank you, Tik Tok! But you don’t have to break the bank to hop on board with the mom and boyfriend jeans trends.

Let’s talk mom jeans. Literally, every mother owned these in the nineties, and they are still floating around thrift stores everywhere. Dig through the racks at Goodwill, and you’re sure to find the wide legs and high waists of your dreams! Another resurfacing style that you can definitely find thrifting is the “boyfriend jean” of the late 2000s. These loose, cuffed, and often distressed jeans look fabulous with a plain tank or tee.

Graphic Tees

It’s impossible not to love a good graphic tee, and that “worn” look is all the rage right now. The best place to find that vintage band tee with just a bit of deconstruction is, you guessed it, the thrift store! Head on over to the tee shirts and start searching. You can do a lot with a good tee shirt to make it even better – like wear it oversized, crop it, or try your hand at some bleach dying.

How should you style that thrift store tee shirt from 1970? Wear it oversized with some biker shorts and sneakers, tie it up and throw on some baggy jeans, or french-tuck then layer it under your best denim or leather jacket.

Iconic Brands

Whether it’s Tommy Hilfiger, Gap, Abercrombie, Ed Hardy, or Juicy Couture, your favorite influencer is probably rocking them! You might have some luck raiding your parents’ or older siblings’ closets for these nostalgic brands – but the thrift shop has your back if not.

What’s hot right now? Gen-Z is loving graphic tees, sweaters, and bucket hats! If you are really, really lucky, you might even find the forever-iconic Juicy velour tracksuit.

Shoulder Pads

You might not believe us, but we promise shoulder pads are making a comeback. We can’t tell you how many boutiques we’ve seen selling the same sleeveless shoulder-padded blouse at top dollar! Lucky for you, this trend is attainable with very little investment.

The ’80s were a time of power suits for professional women, and of COURSE, they had shoulder pads! Check out the blazers section at the thrift store nearest you and start poking those shoulders. Once you find the perfect oversized and shoulder-padded blazer, style it with straight-legged pants or a pair of statement shorts.

The hottest trends of the season are within your grasp, and they can be inexpensive as well as sustainable! While it may feel like a treasure hunt, thrift stores and sites deliver the most unique, authentic styles for today’s most sought-after reborn statement pieces. Not sure where to start? Try Salvation Army, Goodwill, eBay, or ThredUP.
