Making time for education isn’t easy – especially if you’re working a full-time job. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Here are a few tips to help you make more time for education.
Give Up SOME of Your Free Time
Free time is essential to a work-life balance and avoiding burnout. But you shouldn’t be afraid to cut back on your free time to prioritize something as important as education. Giving up some of your free time is a great way to squeeze in some school work without feeling devoid of time to relax and unwind.
Optimize Breaks
Whether you have time during your commute, on your lunch break, or during those small water breaks during the day, optimizing your breaks is a great way to build study time into your schedule without having to give up more free time. Even a few minutes here and there will add up and leave you feeling productive all day long.
Stay Organized
Keeping your schedule, belongings, and even your study space organized goes a long way when staying on top of your seemingly never-ending to-do list. If you struggle with organization, designate a workspace in your home that is free of distractions. And be sure you have set places to file school and work papers and notes separately.
Keep Your Schedule Flexible
Flexibility is key in many scenarios, but it’s especially important when you have a full plate. A flexible schedule allows you to adjust priorities as needed, compensating for work or school when one gets a little too busy. Remember that things come up, and life happens outside of work and school, so as long as you build adjustment time into your schedule, you’ll be ahead of the problem.
Be Transparent and Open to Help and Support
If you’re working full time, be sure to let your boss know that you’re simultaneously seeking a degree. It allows them to understand your personal life a little better and makes them more understanding about adjusting your workload if needed. Good bosses want to make sure you’re not experiencing burnout and will do what they can to help lighten the load – especially if your degree is relevant to your work. Alternatively, don’t be afraid to ask family or friends for support.
