There’s something about having your nails done that makes you feel much more put together. Plus, nobody likes staring at chipped nail polish. If you’re not quite ready to head to the nail salon yet, here’s an easy way to keep your claws looking pretty in 10 minutes or less.
- Removal
You can remove your nail polish the classic way, with cotton balls and nail polish remover, but the quickest method is using a dip or a jar. You simply dip your finger in and twist it until the polish comes off your nail. Keep in mind, this only works with regular polish, not gel or dip. Wash your hands immediately after removing your polish.
- Maintenance
Start by trimming your nails to a comfortable length. Take a nail file to the edges to make sure they are even and smooth. Next, use a cuticle pusher tool to gently push your cuticles back. This step is a must for keeping your nails looking fresh and professional. Pro tip – do not cut cuticles, unless it’s 100% necessary. If you cut your cuticles, they will only fray more!
- Polish
Now comes the fun part: polish! Choose a color that will brighten your day, like a rich coral, or stick with a neutral that goes with everything such as a pale pink. Nail salons use pro brands like OPI, but Sally Hansen has a great selection of well-priced polishes that last. Paint one thin layer of polish over each nail, wait at least 60 seconds, and follow with a thin second layer. Sally Hansen’s Miracle Gel topcoat will keep your polish protected and add some shine (click here).
- Dry and moisturize
You don’t want any knicks or indentations, so allow your polish to dry. To make the drying process faster, use OPI’s Rapid Dry (click here). Finish by moisturizing your hands with your favorite lotion, and you’re done!
