There’s nothing like a party game to bring the group together, but the difference between a good party game and a great party game is clear: The buzz of the room is different, smiles are a little wider, and laughs are a little louder. And don’t get us wrong, we’re just as big of fans of Cards Against Humanity as the next person, but if you’re looking to bring something new to your next game night, try these party games on for size.
There’s Been A Murder
All the true-crime junkies out there – we know there are a ton of us – can put their hours of listening to podcasts to the test with There’s Been A Murder ($16.99, shop here). The goal of this party-pleaser is to identify who in your group is holding the card of “murderer.” It calls on you to use the power of social deduction (i.e., your inner Sherlock Holmes) and the clues on your card to solve the case. But unlike the British detective, you’re not working alone! The only way to crack the mystery is by going at it as a team. It’s perfect for bonding with new groups of friends.
Medium
A word game for honing your psychic abilities, Medium ($19.95, shop here) is sure to please the crowd and leave you with some newly found clairvoyant skills. Working in pairs, you and a teammate will pull a card from the pile and try to find the word that links them together (the medium, get it?). For extra supernatural fun, you’ll have to say the word at the same time. This game is friendly for all ages, so you can bring it to your next family game night!
The Blockbuster Game
Though the video store may be defunct, The Blockbuster Game ($21.99, shop here) keeps the spirit of Blockbuster alive through a game that’ll have the entire family up on their feet! Particularly fun for movie aficionados and cinephiles, this game has three parts: trivia, a timed film-naming showdown, and charades. It’s fast-paced, clean, nostalgic fun. This one is great for big groups (up to 12!) and comes in a cute VHS-inspired sleeve that brings us back to the good ol’ days of video rental nights.
Rabble
Need something that’ll bring the group closer? Rabble ($30, shop here) is a game that keeps you guessing – literally! The objective is simple: Get your team to guess the item on your card, but it doesn’t come without its challenges –whether you’re blocked by the card restrictions or a challenge card pulled by the opposing team. If playing with adults, there are NSFW (not safe for work) cards (that are marked and can easily be removed) for some extra-funny moments! All in all, this party game is all about making inside jokes and tons of memories – perfect for old friends and new friends alike.
