If you’ve got wedding invitations piling up for the fall but nothing to wear, we’ve got some tips and ideas for you.
Tips and Tricks
Never Wear White
Whether it’s spring, summer, winter, or fall…just don’t. And, yes, this includes ivory and cream variations. Unless you are specifically asked to wear white, don’t even think about it!
Consider the Silhouette
A shorter dress with a flutter or cap sleeve might appear too summery, so opt for a style with long sleeves or a lower hemline (so long as you won’t pass out from heat exhaustion, of course).
Don’t Clash With the Bridesmaids
You can’t always prepare for this, but if you happen to know the color of the bridesmaids’ dresses, consider this when choosing your ensemble.
Opt for Outerwear
If you’re attending a fall wedding, you may want to consider a lightweight sweater or jacket, depending on the temperature. If you’re wearing a shorter dress, pairing it with a longer coat balances you out and looks oh-so-chic.
Overdressed vs. Underdressed
We get it: Anything goes these days, but let’s keep weddings as a good excuse to get a little extra with your outfit. If you’re unsure of the dress code, check the invitation. If you’re still unsure, we say it’s better to be a little overdressed than underdressed.
Comfy Shoes Are a Must
Just because you’re getting dressed up doesn’t mean you have to wear shoes that kill your feet. There are a ton of shoe options that will allow you to dance the night away.

You can never go wrong with a little black dress. We love the wrap detail in the front that creates a gorgeous asymmetrical skirt. The V-neck elongates the entire silhouette, and the sleeves are just right for fall. Pair this dress with block heels and statement earrings, and you’ll be ready to party.
Böhme Domhnall Floral Midi Dress ($68.50, shop here)
The warm floral print and the sleeves on this dress make it perfect for weddings or any other fall or winter special occasion. We suggest pairing this dress with clogs and gold earrings for a laid-back boho look.
Chelsea28 Midi Ruffle Wrap Dress ($49.97, shop here)
This dress is beautiful for fall with those sleeves and color. We love this dress paired with accent booties and statement earrings to add some color above the shoulders.

Everything about this caramel-hued dress is a dream: the flutter sleeves, the belt, and the pockets. We love the idea of pairing this dress with block heels and a vintage necklace. A major plus to this dress is the versatility; you can easily throw on a long coat over it if you need to stay warm.
