A “Good Behavior” That Could Be Hurting Your Credit Score

We all know if we don’t pay our credit card on time, that it can put a ding in our credit report. But did you know there are certain good behaviors that can hurt your score as well.

For instance…closing a credit card.

After finally freeing yourself of a credit card debt, it may be tempting to close the card, but that’s not a good idea. You shouldn’t close a credit card because it could hurt your credit utilization.

Utilization is calculated by how much debt you have vs. how much you use. So, when you close out your card it shows a drop in how much you have available.

So, next time you feel the urge to cut up your credit cards, consider keeping it open and just not using it.
