With winter approaching, we have one thing on our minds: creating the warmest, most inviting, and coziest home possible. Luckily, it doesn’t take much to transform your home from a summer chateau to the ultimate winter retreat. Here are some tips.
Start With Bedding
We are all about cotton and linen bedding during the summer, but once the temperatures drop, switch to warmer fabrics like flannel or jersey. Another way to create coziness with your bedding is to fold a quilt or blanket across the foot of your bed. You’ll appreciate the extra layers, and having it on display creates visual warmth.
Incorporate Warm Colors

Sure, it’s cold outside, but that means all the more reason to work with warm colors inside. Whether it’s textiles, accessories, or art, opt for warm hues such as burnt orange, barn red, mustard yellow, or olive green.
Buy Furry Pillows
Okay, they don’t have to be furry, but textured throw pillows can make your space look and feel cozier. Cable knit, crushed velvet, and faux fur all create the same effect.
Gather ‘Round the Fire

If you have a fireplace in your living room, rearrange your furniture to make it the center of all gatherings. If you have space, consider buying some small chairs or stools that can easily be pulled closer to the fire on extra-cold nights.
Rug Time
Rugs can totally transform a room – and your cold feet will thank you. If you don’t have the budget for large area rugs, you can create just as much warmth with smaller rugs, depending on where you put them. We recommend placing them beside beds, under coffee tables, and in front of your favorite reading spot. If these areas are on the larger side, layer rugs to incorporate even more color, texture, and, of course, warmth.
Make the Lighting Soft
Avoid harsh overhead lighting and instead opt for soft and comforting lighting. Floor, table, or desk lamps with a warm glow, string lights, and candles can help you achieve this.
