While browsing TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook, you may have seen someone post what is known as a “Shein haul,“ where they share a video of themselves reviewing their purchases from Shein, the fast-fashion online retailer known for its trendy pieces at super-affordable prices. But if you’ve ever ordered anything from Shein, you know that sometimes the items can be underwhelming. Today, we’ll discuss the pros and cons of Shein.
Pros
It’s Affordable
You really can find stylish pieces for your money. But as you’re shopping, keep in mind that, to a degree, you still get what you pay for. For instance, if you find a top that’s $3, understand that the fit might be off, the material will likely be pretty light and not good quality, and doesn’t last as long in the wash as your other clothes. But hey, it’s $3!

Shein’s customer service is available 24/7 via live chat, which is more than many online retailers can say.
Cons
The Dreaded Shipping Time
Luckily, you can follow your order’s shipping status from the app, but if you need an ensemble for an upcoming event, we don’t recommend Shein. On the flip side, if you plan your outfits in advance and can wait on them, then Shein can be a good option.
Fast Fashion Waste
As with all fast fashions, no matter the price, they only continue to increase waste in the fashion world. When clothing doesn’t last as long, it typically goes into the landfill sooner and is usually not “handed down.” Also, each product you buy comes in a thick synthetic branded zip bag, and is not 100% recyclable. Some things to consider!
The Return Policy
Shein’s return policy isn’t necessarily bad, just something to be aware of. You can return items within 30 days of receiving them, but they have to have their tags, be in the original packaging, and be unused and undamaged. You are responsible for the return shipping, (which usually costs more than the products you’re returning), and sometimes it takes a while to see your refund hit your bank account.

You can’t go wrong with any basic tee from Shein: stripes, solids, you name it. And for just a few bucks per shirt, you have every excuse to buy one in every color.
Skirts
Some of our favorite skirts are from Shein. Most skirts come with elastic waists, so even if the sizing is questionable, they still work. We also love that most skirts are made from light, breezy fabrics that are super flowy and soft.
Shoes and Sandals
We can’t say enough how much we love the shoes and sandals from Shein. These items are typically a little pricier than the clothing, but they are worth it. We recommend reading reviews before buying anything from Shein, but especially the shoes.
Jewelry
Accessories on Shein are crazy affordable! You can nab statement earrings, necklaces, bracelets, anklets, pins, and more for just a couple of bucks! And sometimes, you can find some pretty great pieces at just $1.
