Ladies, it’s about to get hot! Every summer, I struggle to find good clothes that are cute but airy; my pajamas constantly call out to me, but it’s too dang hot to wear them! I’ll save you the struggle and introduce you to some awesome basics to carry you through the warmest months of the year.
The Little Black Sundress
It’s a universally known fact that every woman needs at least one go-to little black dress. While this rule typically refers to formalwear, you should definitely apply it to summer fashion as well. A plain black sundress is super versatile and can be dressed up or down for any occasion.
Family reunion? Pair a black sundress with some Adidas or converse sneakers. Going to the mall or the local pub? Pair your black sundress with some cute sandals. Date night? Dress your black sundress up with a necklace and some heels. Baseball game? Combat the sudden chill of a summer night by tossing a denim jacket over that all-purpose black sundress.
A Ribbed Tank – in Every Color
The most casual and effortless summer ‘fit is a tank top with denim shorts. Every year, I find a good basic one, and buy it in every color! It’s a super casual look that can be paired with sneakers or flip-flops, depending on the day ahead.
It doesn’t have to be super casual, though. Toss on some cute sandals, a layered necklace, and your cutest kimono to transform that $2 tank into a bohemian princess statement look.
A Go-to Bralette
The spaghetti straps and halter tops can quickly become the season of exposed bra cups and indecent exposures. Protect your favorite set of twins with a cute and cozy bralette! You can find a wide selection at your local target, including some lacy options that are so adorable you will want people to see them. Luckily, this trend has popped off – so you can now find bralettes in all sizes and levels of support to accommodate almost any chest.
Some “Soft Shorts”
Now, these can be sweats, linen, or even stretchy denim – just as long as they are comfy. Some days you will inevitably wake up feeling bloated and yucky. The last thing you want in this scenario is real pants.
Personally, my “soft shorts” tend to be paper bag shorts. I find them easy to dress up or down, depending on my current vibe. Trust me; nobody will suspect that you’re wearing them because you felt like trash when getting ready. Another personal favorite is sweat shorts paired with a tube top, cute sneakers, and a ball cap for a sweet, sporty look.
Versatile Denim Shorts
Your favorite pair of denim shorts is easy to style when you lack creativity or in a rush. They look great with tee shirts, tank tops, and fancy blouses. Do not start the season without this summer staple!
This summer, don’t let the heat get you down. These basics will keep you cool while also making you look amazing for every possible occasion! Plus, they won’t break the bank, so you can spend your precious cash on some awesome statement pieces to pair them with.
