We’ll set the scene for you: You need to leave in 10 minutes, you’re standing in the middle of your room with every piece of clothing you own strewn about, and you simply have nothing to wear. Can you feel the defeat and disappointment? As always, we’re here to help. Today, we’ll discuss the reasons you have nothing to wear and what you can do about it.
Reason #1: You Are Strictly Sale Shopping
The Solution: Now, don’t get us wrong, we love a good bargain, but only shopping for sale items can result in a closet full of clothes bought solely for the fact that they were a steal. Instead, buy pieces that you love, and know you will truly wear. Once you find your piece, you can boogie over to the sale racks to find some basics to complete your look.
Reason #2: You Are Impulse Buying
The Solution: If you’ve fallen victim to impulse buying, you are not alone. So before you head over to the register with an item, have a quick brainstorm sesh and ask yourself what you already have at home to wear with it. Every once in a while, it can be a fun fashion challenge to buy a wacky piece of clothing and get creative with your wardrobe, but if you’re consistently doing that, odds are, you have a lot of items that just don’t go together.
Reason #3: Your Clothes Are Outdated
The Solution: Trends do come back, but it really is time to clean out your closet! If you keep seeing all these old trends you don’t wear in your closet, it’s sure to bum you out when you’re looking for an outfit to wear. Sure, fashion trends do come back, but some pieces are better off in the past. So if your closet is full of bubble-hem tops from 2007, it might be time to say goodbye.
Reason #4: You Keep Buying the Same Thing
The Solution: Step out of your comfort zone. We get it, you love a striped top, but do you need five striped tops in different colors? Absolutely not. A good starting point is to organize your closet and hang similar pieces together. If you find you own multiples of something, pick one or two of your favorites, and donate the rest. Then, if you’re out shopping, keep in mind what you already own and what you don’t need.
Reason #5: Your Clothes Don’t Fit
The Solution: Don’t hold onto jeans that you’re hoping to one day “fit into again.” When you have a closet of clothes that fit, you can skip any “feeling bad about yourself and your body” moments. It’s 2021, and we are done with all of that! We’re finding clothes that look and feel great on our bodies, not the other way around.
