If you’re anything like us, then you love shopping for clothes (and you’re probably pretty darn good at it). But being good at and loving something doesn’t always mean we have the funds for it. So today, we’re going to look at how we can spend less money on our wardrobes but continue to rock some incredible looks.
Inventory Your Closet
While this is a daunting task, taking inventory of your closet is necessary to see where you may be wasting money when it comes to clothes. Do you have pieces in there you forgot about? Do some of them still have the price tags? Do you question why you ever spent money on an item in the first place?
Taking inventory will also help you organize your closet and let you see the clothes you already have (to help you avoid buying things you don’t need). You can sell or donate anything you don’t wear to save space. At the end of this step, you’ll have a clean, organized closet full of only pieces you actually want to wear. And hey, you may even make a few bucks in the process!
Stop Buying Unnecessary Items
We aren’t saying you can’t splurge every now and then, but there’s no need to do it all the time. Instead, focus on buying pieces you will wear often. “The most bang for your buck” is the goal here.
Style What You Have
You know that scene in Clueless where Cher uses her computer to put together an outfit from the items in her closet? Well, now it’s your turn to mix and match. If this isn’t your thing, turn to apps like Pinterest or TikTok, or even have one of your stylish friends over and let them do all of the work!
Pay Close Attention to Fit
If we had a dollar for every time we bought an article of clothing that didn’t quite fit, thereby reserving its forever home in the back of our closets, we would have enough money to buy an entirely new wardrobe! Online shoppers can better prepare for this by knowing their measurements and reading about the garment and how it fits. In-store shoppers can simply hit the fitting room. If you don’t like how it looks, leave it. Online shoppers, take the time to return the item and get your money back.
Stop Buying Just Because Something Is on Sale
We, too, are guilty of buying pieces solely because they’re on sale. But let’s make a promise right here, right now, that we’ll stop doing this! Deals are great, but if you don’t truly need an item, don’t buy it!
