Can Selena Gomez do any wrong? We love her music, her style, and her down-to-earth personality—and coming this summer, we’ll be able to enjoy her beauty products too! Selena announced the launch of her line of make-up that will be called Rare Beauty, a name that goes along with one of her recent singles, also titled Rare.
She’s spoken about the inspiration behind her beauty line as being a desire to help people see that their beauty is unique and that our approach to beauty doesn’t have to be a one size fits all method. In a video speaking about the launch of her line, Selena says, “I think Rare Beauty can be more than a beauty brand, I want us all to stop comparing ourselves to one another and to start embracing our uniqueness.” We completely agree. Selena will offer a unique and fresh voice in the beauty industry that promotes self-love overall, welcomed addition.
Yet make-up is only a fraction of what Selena Gomez intends to do with her upcoming line. While she’ll be starting with make-up, she’s said she wants the Rare Beauty brand to be more than just make-up, being instead a force for self-love. Seeing as how she’s already filed patents for essential oils, fragrances, soaps, bath products, plus hair and skincare products, it seems she intends to expand the Rare Beauty brand into a lifestyle brand.
Selena Gomez is not the first celebrity to jump industries and reach out of their foundation in music or TV and into the beauty world. Before her, we can look to Jessica Alba, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Rihanna, and Jennifer Lopez for examples of successful celebrity forays into the world of beauty and beyond. This isn’t Selena’s first rodeo out of the music industry, though; she’s already released her fragrance collection and has partnered with multiple clothing brands to lend her name, for example, with Coach and Puma.
Are we excited for Selena’s expanding empire of beauty with a self-love message? We’ll know more in summer, but right now, our doubts about her success are Rare.
