Our Top Five Nancy Meyers Movies Ranked

When we need a comfort movie, only one name comes to mind: Nancy Meyers. Maybe it’s the natural lighting pouring through every window on set, the fresh cut flowers, the linen ensembles, the beautiful stacks of vintage books placed oh so perfectly, or the fresh potted herbs on every kitchen windowsill, but we just can’t help but find each film beyond charming. Our advice? Make your favorite pasta dish at home, complete with your favorite wine, and hot baguette, have your favorite dessert ready, light a couple of white pillar candles, and treat yourself to a big bouquet of fresh flowers, then settle in for the ultimate movie night. Here are our top five favorite Nancy Meyers films, in order, to make selecting your feature film a little easier.

The Intern

Coming in at No. 5 for us is The Intern starring Robert DeNiro and Anne Hathaway. In our humble opinion, this movie is giving The Devil Wears Prada, in the best way, but in some alternate universe where Andy never meets Miranda Priestly and instead does her own thing, but we digress. 70-year-old Ben Whittaker (DeNiro) has decided to take the fashion world by storm, kind of, by becoming a senior intern at an online fashion site. It doesn’t take long for Ben to win over co-workers, a masseuse, and of course, his boss and founder of the company Jules Ostin played by Anne Hathaway. Watch now on Max.

The Parent Trap

Yo, tie-dye girl, feeling nostalgic? This version is an update from the 1961 Parent Trap with a similar storyline – Annie and Hallie, both played by Lindsay Lohan are complete strangers until meeting at camp. After an identity swap the twins take off for opposite sides of the globe to their parents Nick, in Napa, California played by Dennis Quaid, and Elizabeth in the United Kingdom, played by Natasha Richardson. And hey, their plan may be just crazy enough to get the whole gang back together. Watch it now on Disney+.

Father of the Bride (Part I and II)

A double feature because what’s one without the other? In Part I, George Banks played by Steve Martin and his wife Nina played by Diane Keaton, are the proud, doting parents of Annie played by Kimberly Williams who has recently returned home from studying abroad, engaged. From meeting the future in-laws to wedding planning with an over-the-top consultant, chaos continuously ensues. Then, in Part II, just when things had calmed down, the Banks learn they’re going to be grandparents – and so much more! Cue the over-the-top consultants once again, who have taken on a new endeavor – baby shower planning! Watch them now on Hulu.

It’s Complicated

Complicated is an understatement when it comes to this rom-com. Jane, played by the GOAT Meryl Streep, has been divorced from her ex-husband Jake played by Alec Baldwin for years, but they’ve stayed cordial. Until one dinner together turns into a full-blown affair. Meanwhile,  Adam, played by Steve Martin, an architect hired to remodel her kitchen, finds himself falling in love with Jane after his own messy divorce. Warning: this movie will make you crave French cuisine. Watch it now on Amazon Prime.

Something’s Gotta Give

Be prepared to crack up. Harry Sanburn played by Jack Nicholson and his much younger girlfriend Maring played by Amanda Peet arrive at her family’s place in the Hamptons for a romantic weekend only to find her mother Erica, played by Diane Keaton, staying there as well. Erica immediately has reservations about Harry and his sexist, womanizing ways, then to make matters worse, Harry has a heart attack. But luckily a hunky doctor played by Keanu Reeves comes to his aid and prescribes lots of bed rest. Eventually, Harry finds himself for Erica, and you’ll just have to watch it to learn how it ends. Watch it now on Netflix.
