Must Watch TV Shows That Are Only 1 Season In

Ever feel like you can’t start a show because it’s 12 seasons in? Same. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of hard-hitting first season shows, with some set for a second season.

Clarice

For fans of The Silence of the Lambs, Clarice, on CBS, is the continuation of Clarice Starling’s story. It delves much deeper into the psychological trauma rendered by the events of the film. Like most crime dramas, the show follows a team of FBI agents as they solve various crimes. However, Clarice’s events occur only a year after the events of The Silence of the Lambs, adding a dynamic that’s often as intriguing as it is suspenseful. This show is a one-and-done, and will not be renewed.

Resident Alien

Fans of sarcasm, rejoice! Resident Alien is unlike any show you’ve ever watched before. If you’re anything like me and despise shows focused on extraterrestrials, this one urges you to reconsider your stance. The show follows an alien stranded on Earth, forced to blend in with humans, as he searches for his lost device that has the capability to wipe them all out with the push of a button. If you’re looking for a good laugh, enough sarcasm to last a lifetime, and something relatively light to help you unwind after a day at work, Resident Alien is for you. And, this show will be renewed for a second season.

Firefly Lane

Fans of Sarah Chalke, Katherine Heigl, or the general plot points of romantic comedies will find this show on Netflix a pretty easy binge, regardless of what the critics think. Firefly Lane offers a central friendship between two female leads that spans decades, giving us insight into every stage of the relationship and the ups and downs within. Is there anything particularly groundbreaking in the show? No. Is it still entertaining enough to grab your attention for ten episodes? Absolutely. And though Netflix hasn’t confirmed a second season, a second season seems likely.

Bridgerton

This isn’t the first time Shonda Rhimes has produced a hit show revolving around, at least in part, relationships and sex. Bridgerton, on Netflix, transports viewers back to Regency-era England. Daily tea is standard, debutantes are central to the period, and sexual tension is miraculously just as evident in modern times. Who would’ve thought? Trust me; you will “burn” for the confirmed next season after your quick binge.

Upload

Upload is an Amazon Prime original dramedy (that can also be found on Netflix), that will have you hooked from the moment you sit down until the moment it ends. It promises to have you waiting on the edge of your seat for season 2 as well.

Upload is set in the year 2033, making this sci-fi show a futuristic, afterlife extravaganza that is equally capable of feeling far-fetched and totally realistic. Regardless of how you envision the future (or the afterlife, for that matter), this show will transport you to both, and you’ll be one hundred percent thrilled along the journey. The second season is coming out late 2021, early 2022.

Committing to a single season of television takes a lot less energy than a never-ending series. Plus, these relatively new shows are available for your streaming pleasure right now and offer just the right amount of entertainment for your busy schedule, so enjoy them while you still can!
