Minimize Anxiety With This Easy-to-Follow Advice

Anxiety is a pain in the butt! Take it from us: We’ve dealt with it a time or two. But, alas, we’re proud to say we’ve found some ways to deal with the anxiety that actually work! So read on for some helpful tips to keep in mind when an anxious spell comes along.

Be Consistent With Your Physical Activity

Exercise is probably the last thing you want to do when you’re feeling anxious…It’s much easier to curl up in a ball with your favorite blanket and snacks and binge-watch some Netflix, right? However, that option does not make the anxiety go away. If you make physical activity a part of your almost-everyday plan, you may notice the anxious symptoms don’t occur as frequently. You may also see a reduction in stress, improvement in mood, and fewer sleep disturbances.

Drink Less Caffeine

Naturally, caffeine is responsible for increasing your heart rate, speeding up your reactions, and spiking your adrenaline levels. Some people experience varying anxiety levels when their adrenaline rises. If that’s you, it might be time to cut back on your caffeine.

When we think of caffeine, our brains automatically go to coffee. Unfortunately, this is not the only form of caffeine you can put into your body. Other sources include caffeinated sodas, chocolate, desserts, and over-the-counter pain medications. Keep a watchful eye and determine what affects you and when.

Meditate

When it comes to easing the anxious mind, meditation works wonders. Being able to zone out can really direct you to a sense of serenity and positivity. Begin with 10 minutes a day and use some music or meditation guides on YouTube to help get you started. With practice, it should become easier!

Find a Solid Sleep Routine

Waking up extra early or going to bed super-late may be your way of getting things done. But if you’re not getting the recommended eight or so hours of sleep each night that you need to unwind, your emotional and mental well-being could be in jeopardy. To start a good sleep routine, try to get in bed around the same time every night. In the same respect, set your alarm every morning for the same time. Once you train your body to find its natural circadian rhythm, it should become easier to fall asleep and wake up at your intended times.

Other Ways to Combat Anxiety

  • Purchase a weighted blanket.
  • Track your moods through journaling.
  • Book a massage.
  • Dance it out.
  • Check out aromatherapy.
  • Practice breathing.
  • Read a book that calms your nerves.
  • Go for a walk in nature.

As always, we recommend speaking with your doctor about any anxiety you may have – especially if it is persistent and is significantly affecting your quality of life.
