Self-love is putting your own well-being and happiness above others. It may seem selfish by definition, but in reality, it’s a necessity for living your best life. Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to practice self-love on a daily basis. So here are some tips!
Celebrate the Small Wins
Having goals is one thing, but setting unrealistic expectations is another. For example, if you want to get in shape, celebrate small wins, like making healthy lifestyle changes, eating more fruit and vegetables, and participating in strength training or cardio-related exercises.
The same mindset can be used when paying off debt. Put an extra payment toward your debt each month and budget accordingly. Once the numbers decrease, feel proud you’re working toward your goal. Don’t restrict yourself to the point of burnout, which will inevitably put a strain on you.
Don’t Compare Yourself to Others
Being jealous of or comparing yourself to others doesn’t make you feel good about yourself, causing stress, guilt, and shame. Instead, try not to compare or compete. And if any of those emotions come up, push them aside and just try to be the best version of yourself.
Allow Yourself to Make Mistakes
Do you remember that Hannah Montana song, “Nobody’s Perfect”? Listen to the lyrics again. Although we often feel pressure to be perfect, but in order to practice self-love, it’s important to remind yourself that it’s okay to make mistakes. You learn from them and move on.
Spend Time With People Who Make You Feel Good
Who do you surround yourself with? When practicing self-love, be selective about the people you spend time with. If they devalue you, get rid of them! The self-love journey is all about knowing your worth and not letting others make you question it.
Set Boundaries
Boundaries. Boundaries. Boundaries. We can’t say it enough: You need them. Recognizing and respecting your limits is so important for self-love. Say no to places, things, experiences, and people who make you feel less than or uncomfortable. Prioritize “me time,” and put your needs ahead of those around you.
