How to Live a “Soft Life”

If you (like many of us) find yourself scrolling TikTok more than you would like to admit, you may have encountered the hashtag #softlife. Simply put, a soft life is all about slowing down, kicking stress to the curb, and prioritizing yourself. If we’ve piqued your interest, keep reading for all the deets.

What Is a Soft Life?

First things first: When you’re committed to a soft life, relaxation, mental health, and well-being come first. You eat foods that are good for you and prioritize sitting down for meals instead of eating on the go. Alcohol doesn’t play a huge role in a soft life, but yoga and meditation certainly do. While transitioning to a soft life can be a journey, it can be a step in the right direction.

How to Live a Soft Life

Whether you’re ready to make the change or still feel in the dark, here are a few ways to slow down and live a softer life.

Cause of Stress?

Take time to consider what causes you stress. Start with vague things like work, school, or schedules, then get to the root of those stresses. Now, ask yourself what you can do to fix these stressors. Can you improve the source or the environment? For example, you may not be able to quit your stressful job, but you can change how you approach your workday, like taking more breaks with fresh air and sunshine, and taking quality time for yourself in the evenings.

Prioritize Rest

No more glamorizing the hustle – it’s time to get enough sleep. Rest is not a reward for your hard work. So set some ground rules, such as not working past a certain hour, not working on weekends or holidays, and ensuring you take small breaks during your day to stretch and recharge.

Develop a Romantic Routine

No more scrolling your phone the second your alarm clock goes off in the morning. Instead, journal or read for a few minutes of peace; practice yoga, meditation, or stretching; and enjoy a delicious breakfast before heading to work. In the evening, dim the lights, tidy your space, read a good book, and go to bed at a reasonable hour. Romanticizing your AM and PM routines is a surefire way to start and end your day dedicated to taking care of your mind and body.

Accept Help

This can be difficult, but if you have people willing to help you, let them. It takes courage to accept help, but once you do, you may see how beneficial it is to your well-being.

You Don’t Have to Be the Fixer

Let go of the idea of being a hero. Believing it’s all up to you can add unnecessary stress and get you caught up in unnecessary drama, which is the opposite of a soft life.

But Does It Bring You Joy?

Our final tip is simple: Savor the moments you spend doing what makes you happy and brings you joy.
