When we talk about a balanced life, we mean a life that feels calm, a head that feels clear, and a body that feels motivated. Creating balance is about figuring out and prioritizing what’s important. Given the beautiful chaos of life, balance may seem out of reach, but there are some realistic ways of restoring it. Here are some tips.
Why Is It Important to Have a Balanced Life?
A balanced life is good for your overall health. When life is balanced, you pay attention to the things around you, from your relationships and career to your mental and emotional well-being.
How to Create or Restore Balance
Take a Digital Break
Turn it all off – your phone, computer, iPad, etc. – and give your brain and eyes a rest. You don’t have to commit to this long-term; even a few hours at a time is progress. Gradually increase your time without your devices, and you may be surprised by the difference it makes.
Just Say No
If saying no sounds scary, let’s call it setting boundaries. We tend to overcommit to not let people down, but that’s a slippery slope. If something doesn’t add value to your life, just say, “No thanks,” and move on.
Make Time for Yourself
Even for a few minutes each morning or night, find time to be alone and meditate, practice yoga, or just enjoy the silence. If you aren’t sure what is calming in these moments, use this as an opportunity to try new things, like sketching or reading a book.
Nurture Your Relationships
Sometimes, it’s easy to let relationships fall by the wayside when we get busy. Still, we get out of our relationships what we put into them, so taking the time to connect with those we love and care about is vital for creating a harmonious, balanced life. While you’re together, put your phone down and get some quality time.
Catch Some Zzz’s
Getting adequate sleep every night is an all-around great idea. You won’t end the day feeling run down and will be focused and level-headed throughout your day.
Learn Some Things
Find what interests you and dive into it. Whether it’s a new book, craft, hobby, or class, make it a point to expand your awareness.
