Do you feel happiest in Autumn? You’re not alone. Many of us are conditioned from a young age to love the season – and view it as a “clean slate”. This is likely why there is so much joy in decorating our homes in the fall season! We spoke with Jeanelle Ditto, founder of Blush Interior Designs, for a few fall decorating tips.
Do What Makes You Happy
It can seem intimidating to have to make or buy a lot of seasonal decorations to fill every corner of your house, but there is no need to overdo it. “Do what makes you feel comfortable and happy,“ Ditto says. “The perfect fall decorations for me would include black-and-white pumpkin decor and some yummy fall-scented candles. But if that cute pumpkin bedspread will make you feel something amazing, then go get that pumpkin bedspread!”
Ditto also believes that decorating your office space is good for you rather than distracting. “If anything, it makes me feel a little more motivated to work hard so I can enjoy my time off even more,” she says.
Is Fall DIY Hard to Do?
If crafting doesn’t come to you easily, you may feel a little unnerved about doing DIY decor for your home. Ditto suggests looking for ideas and how-to videos on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram Reels. Pinterest is another place to find inspiration and step-by-step examples. While your crafts may not turn out perfectly the first time, it will be a great activity and something you can be proud to display.
Before beginning your project, invest in some of Ditto’s must-have crafting items, including a hot glue gun, colored gems, black burlap, and some sliced wood slabs. We also suggest having something to write with, whether that’s pens, chalk, markers, or pastels. Mod Podge is also a must-have – and don’t forget a good pair of scissors.
Fall Colors and Ideas
What are the best colors to use? Well, this is entirely up to you! Ditto prefers a palette that includes black, white, and cream because she is a more modern designer. You can also paint pumpkins with darker greens, blues, and whites or add a splash of gold. And, of course, there is nothing wrong with sticking with traditional colors, which include red, yellow, orange, and brown.
