Gilmore Girls is one of our all-time favorite shows. So, as bookworms like Rory Gilmore, we decided to compile a list of titles that give us the same warm and fuzzy feeling.
The Suite Spot by Trish Doller ($16.99, shop here)
On Gilmore Girls, we champion Lorelai as our favorite single boss mom; in The Suite Spot by Trish Doller, we cheer for Rachel Beck. Like Lorelai, Rachel works in a hotel and has a daughter. Due to a turn of events, she loses her job at the Miami hotel and takes a position at a brewery hotel on Kelleys Island on Lake Eerie. There, she finds a new way of life and a moody man who teaches her the ropes of the hotel.
Friends and Strangers by J. Courtney Sullivan ($17, shop here)
Elisabeth, the protagonist of Friends and Strangers by J. Courtney Sullivan, has trouble adjusting to small-town life. Unlike our favorite girls, Lorelai and Rory, Elisabeth feels uneasy in a place much like Stars Hollow. She is an accomplished journalist and a new mom. She hires Sam, a senior at the women’s college, to help care for her baby. They start to grow close until Sam befriends Elisabeth’s father-in-law, exposing their differences and leading to a devastating betrayal.
Book Lovers by Emily Henry ($17, shop here)
In another universe, Rory might have had a literary career because of her love of books, much like Nora Stephens, a hard-nosed literary agent in Book Lovers. She agrees to take a trip to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina, with her sister, expecting to be the protagonist of her own story. Instead, she has many run-ins with Charlie Lastra, a bookish, brooding editor from the city.
Musical Chairs by Amy Poeppel ($17.99, shop here)
Musical Chairs by Amy Poeppel is a fun, happily-ever-after book that gives us the same warm vibes as Gilmore Girls. Sure, there’s conflict, but there’s also friendship and love. Our protagonist, Bridget, and her best friend have a close relationship but are just friends. Together, they found a chamber group, Forsyth Trio, with their classmate Gavin. Sterling, Bridget’s boyfriend, leaves her, her two adult children arrive unexpectedly, and she finds herself planning her father’s wedding while trying to reunite the chamber group and lure Gavin back.
Emma of 83rd Street by Audrey Bellezza and Emily Harding ($17.99, shop here)
In a book where Jane Austen meets Gilmore Girls Year in the Life, Emma of 83rd Street has us encounter New York socialite Emma Woodhouse. She’s lived in the same neighborhood with her sister her entire life, but when her sister marries and moves out, Emma finds herself very bored. She has grad school, but her friends are studying abroad, and she has little to do. Meanwhile, her neighbor, George Knightley, is a thorn in her side, but soon both start to see each other as more.
