If you’re anything like us, traveling, parking, and rushing through crowds to get a good seat below the sky just doesn’t seem as appealing anymore. But good news: Going to see fireworks is not the only thing you can do on the Fourth of July: There are a ton of other ways to celebrate the holiday! Here are some suggestions.
Camping
Visiting an out-of-state campsite or national park is the perfect Fourth of July crowd swapper. Most campgrounds require you to be a certain distance from fellow campers, giving you the ability to do your own thing, play games, cook, and listen to music. Depending on your location, some campsites also offer uninterrupted views of local firework shows.
Outdoor Movie Night
Another fun activity away from fireworks is an outdoor movie night. Purchasing a basic projector that hooks to your iPhone, (shop here), and a foldable movie screen, (shop here), will prepare you for countless entertainment evenings throughout the summer.
Host a Backyard Game Marathon
Yard games like cornhole, horseshoes, and croquet are super entertaining in the summertime. Distribute them evenly so that each group of people has enough room to participate accurately.
Go Hiking
Hiking in the hot sun may sound dreadful, but if you pick a place with a waterfall or two and load up on H2O, you should be good to go. Check out trails that have necessary resting stops, and be sure to wear sunscreen. If you happen to end your hike while the stars are out, you may see some fireworks in the distance.
Backyard Barbecue
Fourth of July barbecues may sound cliché, but they are always a ton of fun. Run to the local grocery store and stock up on chicken, burgers, hot dogs, steaks, veggies, and more.
