Every year, different food trends take social media by storm. For example, the air fryer was the trend of 2020 (understandably!) – and who could forget the rainbow grilled cheese of 2019? But what about this year? Here are some of the top food trends of 2022.
Booze-Free Cocktails
Surprisingly to some, Gen Z’ers are looking for more alternatives to alcohol than ever before. Whether it’s because of the impact on their mood or how it affects their image on social media, as a whole, they are drinking less than their millennial counterparts. This has led to more restaurants and companies producing non-alcoholic mocktail options.
Rosemary Watermelon-Infused Water
Watermelon and rosemary are not something you would think pair well together, but the combo is becoming more popular than ever thanks to its known hydrating effects. Check out this refreshing recipe for rosemary watermelonade.
Semi-Plant-Based
As much as some people want to eat more plant-based options, they do not necessarily want to be vegetarian or vegan. Many opt instead to reduce their meat consumption instead of eliminating it. Because of this, there is a lot of buzz around “beyond meat” burgers and other plant-based options like oat milk, ETC!
Turmeric Tonic
The pandemic caused many people to look for ways to boost their immunities. Enter the turmeric tonic, a beverage concoction made of wellness-boosting ingredients such as honey (which helps relieve sore throats), ginger, cayenne, lemon, and turmeric (which contains a compound called curcumin, which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects).
Cauliflower Rice Bowls
Cauliflower rice bowls are tasty and better for you than rice or quinoa. You can add veggies, mushrooms, and even cheese, then top it with herbs like fresh parsley, cilantro, or basil for added flavor.
It seems like all of the food trends of 2022 are geared toward healthier eating and drinking, which we love! Have you tried any of the above? Share your experience with us in the comments below!
