In the 2001 film Legally Blonde, Elle Woods is out for revenge when her Harvard-bound boyfriend calls it quits. In his quest for greatness, he tells her, “I need to marry a Jackie, not a Marilyn.” Taking his words to heart, Elle is ready to abandon her girly image by enrolling in the very same law school. The movie opened discourse on the ways in which hyperfeminine women were deemed to be unintelligent. But we know that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Flash-forward over 20 years, and we’re in the midst of a hyperfeminine revival with women incorporating glitter, gems, rhinestones, and pink into their everyday wardrobe. This effort to “think pink” is more than just a trend but a feminist fashion movement. Let’s look at how pink is growing within fashion spaces today.

The revival of pink surfaced in the Valentino Fall/Winter 2022-23 collection, where models graced the catwalk in hot-pink monochrome looks in various silhouettes.

Unsurprisingly, the Valentino collection piqued the interest of many celebrities on the red carpet. Some individuals sporting the color included Lizzo, Dua Lipa, Sebastian Stan, and Anne Hathaway. More recently, Florence Pugh turned heads in a sheer tulle Valentino gown. Despite critiques of her look, she assured the public that her confidence was in herself and the dress was left unscathed.

Retailers and outlets had no plans to miss this “think pink” phenomenon. For example, sustainable fashion brand Reformation put its own spin on the color with a skin-tight midi dress featuring a mock neck collar.
