Is self-care expensive? We don’t think so! Here are some simple ways to treat yourself that are absolutely free.
Write It Out
No stamps are necessary. Take a break to compliment yourself in a written letter. Start with five things you admire about yourself, then move onto five things that you’re grateful for in your life. Now, this alone will help you feel better, but you aren’t done yet! Tuck the letter away and save it for a rainy day. When that day comes, read it aloud for another round of self-care.
Organize and Prioritize
Is there an area of your living space that is messy enough to be constantly nagging the back of your mind? Tackling a problem area and transforming it into a functional, organized space is sure to give you a boost of confidence. Plus, if it’s a highly used area, you will also be streamlining your daily routine.
Bake Yourself a Treat
Browse some cooking blogs until you find a recipe that speaks to your soul. Then take it slow and fully soak in the glorious relaxation of combining ingredients and smelling the wonderful aromas. If that doesn’t make you feel better, the warm, fresh treats at the end of the process certainly will.
Reevaluate Your Role Models
Take a long, hard look at who’s on your feed. Who do you follow? Are these people spewing positivity, or do they make you play the comparison game? The removal of toxicity in your daily scrolling is long-lasting self-care. What about your overly political aunt? She’ll be offended if you unfriend her on Facebook. Use the mute button where you can’t unfollow to avoid an awkward Thanksgiving dinner conversation.
Take It Outside
Nature is key here, but it’s also important to leave your phone at home. Bring a blanket or a comfy lawn chair with you. Watch the sun rise or set. Stare at the stars or the clouds. It doesn’t matter, just as long as you feel calm.
Or, Let the Outside In
Never underestimate the power of fresh air! Sunlight can brighten your mood and spirits as well. So why not open up all of your windows for a quick mood boost?
Just Pause
Step away from it all – no texting, checking your emails, or folding the laundry. Take a few minutes to sip some hot tea, walk around the block, or just breathe in deeply. A brain break is instant self-care. Free of cost!
Self-care isn’t selfish or expensive! These easy methods will let you soothe your mind – on the cheap!
