Things to Do in NOLA if You’ve Never Been

If you’re more of a go-with-the-flow kind of person, setting up a day-by-day schedule might not sound appealing. But you’ll thank us later for encouraging you to at least jot down a list of the must-sees.

Here are the coolest, most intriguing sites in NOLA to consider on your trip.

Taste a Po’Boy

A traditional New Orleans sandwich, you simply can’t leave the town without trying a po’boy. There are plenty of great options, but we’d like to sway your attention to Parkway Bakery & Tavern. It’s not fancy, so you don’t need to dress up. But it is delicious as can be.

Take a Swamp Tour

Looking for a bit of excitement in the wildlife sector of New Orleans? Book a swamp tour; you’ll see alligators and turtles, get educated on the bayou’s ecosystem, and check out some natural landscapes in all their uniqueness.

Indulge in a Crawfish Boil

Crawfish boils are home to the South, bringing charm and an exquisite culinary experience to every table. Indulge in the spicy seafood, paired with corn, sausage, and delectable boiled potatoes. Every bite will have you yearning for more. That’s why we highly suggest grabbing more than one while you’re visiting.

Tour the Cemeteries

The creepy things that go bump in the night can totally be found in the exquisite NOLA city. From ghosts to goblins, vampires, to werewolves, there’s tales of every type of supernatural being around every corner. So while you’re visiting, be sure to book a cemetery tour and get deep in the nitty-gritty of it all. Just keep a flashlight near your bed for when it’s time to fall asleep…

Consume All the Beignets

If you research NOLA on the web for its coffee shops and pastries, one of the first things that’ll come up is beignets at Cafe Au Lait. These absolutely scrumptious French doughnuts dusted in powdered sugar are to die for. Pair it with a hot cup of Joe and you’re in heaven.

Hop Aboard a Steamboat

Thinking about a steamboat brings us down the road of nostalgia, when Mississippi relied on steamships for things like distributing cotton and spreading fun loving jazz music. Luckily, you can still hop aboard one. Riding on the upper deck at sunsight is truly a sight to see.

Visit the Only Vampire Store in the U.S.

If you’re an avid vampire fan, you have to make a stop at Boutique du Vampyre. It’s just beyond the French Quarter touristy spots. Open to both mortals and vampires alike, you’ll find some pretty interesting items inside for purchase. Including sets of fangs that fit to the shape of your teeth.

Stop by the Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop

If you’re up for a ‘neighborhood vibe’ instead of partying all day and staying up all night, the Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop is the place to go. Established in 1772, this bar is Louisiana’s oldest and most famous. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a cold cocktail while you look around at the hauntingly creepy spot.

Have Fun in HEX

Interested in meeting a real-life witch or warlock? HEX’s Old World Witchery is where you’ll cross that item off your bucket list. Walk in and immediately view the mesmerizing amulets, smelly herbs, interesting trinkets, and love potions for purchase. While you’re there, book a reading or take a class! Grab a book for the plane ride home and see all the intriguing things you can learn.

Listen to Music in Jackson Square

Jackson Square is mesmerizing with its street-side Jazz music, intricate boutiques, pleasant shops, and enjoyable eateries. Just walking through is an event in itself. While you’re around, take a peek at the St. Louis Cathedral and grab a tour, a few photos, and some paintings if you can.

Order a Drink at Carousel Bar

Ooo-la-la, a carousel that is constantly (but very slowly) spinning? Sounds interesting to us! Well, you, too, can experience it. Head on over to Hotel Monteleone, sit at the bar, and have a drink. The bar rotates every 15 minutes, so you’ll have a different view of people watching in the restaurant every by the time you order your next drink.
