If we have the opportunity to stay home, we’re about it. Would we call ourselves expert homebodies? We think so! Today, we will look at ways to embrace the homebody lifestyle – even if you don’t feel like you’re naturally wired to do so.
What Are the Benefits of Being a Homebody?
Believe it or not, being a homebody has some major benefits.
Increased Productivity
As it turns out, those who work from home have the chance to master the art of multitasking. For instance, what do you do if you need a break from your desk? People working in the office might turn to social media. But where do people turn when working from home? The dishes, meal prep, laundry, etc.
All-Around Healthier
Being in the comfort of your home means avoiding eating out at a restaurant or stopping for fast food, which is highly processed and has little to no nutritional value. Plus, during the cooler months, staying home means being less exposed to germs. And, staying in means more opportunities to practice self-care routines such as steamy aromatherapy showers or morning yoga.
Mental Recharge
We all need time to rest and recharge, and where is the best place to do that? Home! That’s not to say the party can’t come to you. Invite people over for a nice dinner or a movie night. We can’t imagine a more perfect scenario than being surrounded by our favorite people at our favorite place.
Money Saver
You don’t have to be great at math to realize that being home more often means spending less money on gas, eating out, entertainment, etc. You may even be shocked by how much you can save.
How to Embrace Homebody Life
Here are five ways to embrace the still, quiet, intentional life of a homebody.
Keep the Entertainment Close
Being home has to be fun. But the beauty is that you get to tailor the fun to you. What do you find entertaining? Reading, watching TV, movies, knitting, gardening, cooking? The list is never-ending. In the words of Julia Child, “Find something you’re passionate about, and keep tremendously interested in it.”
Get Up and Moving
We get it; sometimes you need an evening to laze around and binge your favorite show. But as for the rest of the time, we recommend becoming a house piddler. Finding small things around your house to do will keep the boredom at bay – and you’ll stay productive.
Enjoy the Little Moments
There are a ton of beautiful moments that happen within your four walls, or just outside of them, every day. Have coffee on your front porch or balcony, open the windows and listen to nature, or sit and enjoy the golden hour of sunshine pouring into your favorite room. Enjoy these seemingly small moments; you’ll be so glad you did.
Take a Deep Breath
Avoid the dreaded cabin fever and boost your mood by getting outside and breathing fresh air.
Make Your Home Your Happy Place
You’ll enjoy being in your home more if it is organized, clean, and decorated how you want it. This doesn’t mean you have to tear down walls and do a complete renovation. But make your home a little haven just for you.
