Anticipated Fall 2023 Book Releases

Now that we’ve finished our summer beach reads, it’s time to get excited about some of this fall’s most anticipated book releases. Get ready to embrace the cooler weather and cozy up with a good book wrapped in a blanket on your favorite chair. Here are some titles we can’t wait to dive into.

If you’re looking for a good memoir, try Thicker Than Water: A Memoir. Award-winning actress, producer, director, and activist Kerry Washington (you know her from ABC’s Scandal) recounts her childhood, her career journey, and her path toward self-discovery.

The Unsettled by Ayana Mathis (29, shop here)

Ayana Mathis, the bestselling author of The Twelve Tribes of Hattie, has a new novel out: The Unsettled. The book is set in Philadelphia and Alabama in the 1980s during a politically and racially turbulent time. Our protagonist, Ava Carson, and her son, Toissaint, live in a shelter in poor conditions. Ava is determined to give her son a better life.

Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant by Curtis Chin ($29, pre-order here)

Author Curtis Chin is a social justice documentary writer and co-founder of the Asian American Writers’ Workshop in New York City. In his memoir, debuting October 17, he chronicles growing up in Detroit in the 1980s as a gay Chinese American. Chin came of age at Chung’s Cantonese Cuisine, surrounded by his multigenerational family. There, he learned how to navigate the world while enjoying sweet and sour pork and other traditional Chinese dishes.

The Vulnerables by Sigrid Nunez ($28, pre-order here)

National Book Award winner Sigrid Nunez’s upcoming novel The Vulnerables, launching November 7, follows a solitary Gen-Z female who reflects on life today and in the past. With some seriousness and humor, we explore how strangers’ willingness to open their hearts can go a long way in easing one another’s distress.

The Little Liar by Mitch Albom ($26.99, pre-order here)

New York Times bestselling author Mitch Albom’s new novel, The Little Liar, is slated for a November 14 release. The book follows the young protagonist Nico Krispis, who lived through the Nazi invasion of Greece during the Holocaust. Nico’s innocence is shattered when he learns he was tricked into helping the German police. He is never truthful again after his family is taken away.
