One Tablespoon of Olive Oil Can Help Keep You Healthy

Antioxidants in olive oil could help prevent or slow down cancer growth and reduce the risk of heart disease –  two of the biggest killers of people worldwide. Eating one tablespoon of olive oil a day could help you live longer, according to experts. “A review of studies found people with the highest intakes of olive oil compared with the lowest intakes were 34 per cent less likely to have any type of cancer,” say Dr. Sarah Brewer and dietician Juliette Kellow. “And particularly breast cancer.”

In their new book “Eat Better Live Longer,” they claim that the olive oil could add years to your life. This comes after years of scientific evidence suggesting olive oil may help people avoid deadly diseases. The two authors say olive oil may reduce the damaging effects of cholesterol, blood pressure and age-related diseases.  The kitchen staple can also improve cognitive function.

Although olive oil is high in calories at 100 per tablespoon, it is also high in monounsaturated fats that help reduce cholesterol and cut the risk of heart attacks and stroke. Brewer and Kellow recommend consuming the oil in moderation and limiting intake to one tablespoon each day.
