How to Moisturize Your Lips

As the cold weather creeps in, dry skin is a growing problem, especially when it comes to your lips. If you’re constantly plagued by chapped lips during the winter, here are a few ways to get that soft, beautiful look you love!

Use Lip Balm (Religiously)

If you’re anything like us, having some form of lip balm on hand at all times is essential. However, you likely only apply it when it’s needed. Get ahead of the problem by building a moisturizing lip balm into your nightly and morning routine to ensure your lips remain soft and plump rather than dry and chapped.

Exfoliate

Just as you should apply lip balm at night, you should be exfoliating your lips every morning to get rid of any dead skin. It sounds gross (and it kind of is), but it’s going to save your lips in the long run. To achieve this, you can use a new toothbrush dedicated to your lips or a soft, damp washcloth.

Stay Hydrated

Just as with your skin, when your body is hydrated, your lips will be hydrated. Keeping yourself hydrated is necessary for many reasons, but when you start noticing that your lips are always chapped, dehydration could be the culprit.

Invest in a Humidifier

If you don’t already have one, it’s time to invest in a humidifier, which can compound the effects of staying hydrated by keeping the external body moist and hydrated as well. Humidifiers range in size, abilities (such as essential oil diffusing humidifiers) and even aesthetics, which means you can purchase one that fits your home or office decor.

Avoid Licking Your Lips

You may do this without even realizing it. However, the more often you lick your lips, the more you’re drying them out! So, pay more attention to your habits, just as you would touching your face or playing with your hair, and try to avoid licking your lips.

Attempt a Lip Mask

If your problem is more severe, or you simply enjoy the feeling, try a lip mask, which, much like a face mask, adds nutrients into your skin and combats problems such as chapped lips. Select from a variety of store-bought options or create your own.

Use Cucumber

Cucumber slices are used at spas for a reason: They offer natural hydration. So, if you’ve tried all else, or simply feel like having an at-home spa day, lay down with some cucumber slices over your lips and let them do all the work for you!
