How to Master the Nearly-Nude Lip Trend

Wearing a nude lip look isn’t the same as just having natural lips. The nearly-nude lip trend is being used on all the most beautiful faces, but it takes a lot more than a tube of clear chapstick to create it. In a couple of steps, you can create a nearly-nude lip look that will look effortless and naturally beautiful — with only a little bit of effort on your part. Nearly-nude lips aren’t quite nude, but they’re not quite packed with color, either.

Prep Your Lips

Begin with a moisturizing tinted balm. You always want to start with a moisturizing base for your lips to keep them looking plump and pretty all day or night. To create a pretty nearly-nude look, choose a balm with a tint that will help tone down the natural pink of your lips. A balm with a cool beige tone, for example, beautifully masks the natural pink of your mouth.

Sally Hansen’s Colorfast Tint and Moisture Balm comes in the shade called In the Pink, a slightly tinted shade that works well for any nearly nude lip look.

Add the Color

Once your balm has been applied in a thin, even layer, you can add your lip color. Choosing the right shade of lipstick is essential. Avoid orange-based lipstick, because this can make your complexion look yellowy. You want a sheer, light lip color in a soft beige or very barely there pink tone. This creates a gorgeous natural look that’s perfectly in keeping with the nearly-nude lip style. Keep it matte, or add a dash of gloss to the top.

Try M.A.C.’s creemsheen lipstick in “Creme D ‘ Nude”, or “Myth.”

Great Nude Lips

The key to pulling off a nearly-nude lip trend also relies on the rest of your makeup. You want your mouth to complement your face; not to disappear. Now is not the time for heavily made-up glittery eyes. Stick to a neutral color palette all over your face. Pinkish or beige eyeshadow and a touch of bronzer are all you need to create a beautiful look that will match your nearly-nude lips well. Wear eyeliner in a soft black or brown shade. Finish with just a kiss of rosy blush on the apples of your cheeks and your forehead, if needed, to warm up your face just a touch.

When you’re finished, you’ll have a makeup look that’s fresh, natural, and ready to go anywhere.
