Five Pizza Recipes We Love

Because we love pizza so much (who doesn’t!?), we decided to create a list of our favorite pizza recipes. Enjoy!

Spring Onion and Salami Sheet-Pan Pizza

Sheet-pan pizza is super easy to make! Try this tasty one from Food & Wine.

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 (1-pound) multigrain or plain pizza dough balls
  • 1 cup jarred pizza sauce
  • 2½ cups of pre-shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 oz salami or your preferred meat
  • 1¾ cups small spring onion or fennel bulb, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup Parmesan or your preferred cheese, grated
  • ½ tsp fennel seeds, crushed
  • Flaky sea salt
  • Fresh baby greens or herb leaves such as flat-leaf parsley or basil

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 500°F with rack in lower third.
  2. Grease an 18-by-13-inch rimmed baking sheet with oil; place one dough ball on one side, then gently stretch outward into an even layer until it covers half of the baking sheet. (If dough springs back, let it rest for 10 minutes before stretching again.) Repeat with remaining dough ball on opposite side of baking sheet. Press seam together in middle to seal.
  3. Spoon pizza sauce evenly over dough; sprinkle with mozzarella and top with salami, spring onion, Parmesan, and fennel seeds.
  4. Bake until crisp and brown on bottom and edges, about 25 minutes.
  5. Remove from oven, and sprinkle with salt. Top with greens and drizzle lightly with additional oil.

Veggie Pesto Cast-Iron Skillet Pizza

If you are vegetarian or like vegetarian-style pizzas, this iron skillet veggie-pesto pizza recipe from Love & Lemons is for you. If you prefer meat, you can always substitute it the plant-based ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • 3 to 4 oz plant-based Italian sausage
  • 14 oz pizza dough
  • Extra-virgin olive oil
  • Scoops of cashew cream or ½ cup grated mozzarella
  • 2 Tbsp red onion, chopped
  • 7 oz artichoke hearts (canned), drained and quartered
  • ⅓ cup roasted red peppers and/or roasted tomatoes
  • Pesto
  • Basil leaves
  • Red pepper flakes

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F.
  2. Cut the sausage into small pieces. In a small cast-iron skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage pieces until browned, 1 to 2 minutes.
  3. Press the pizza dough into a dry 10-inch cast-iron skillet, pressing a thicker rim of dough around the edge to shape the pizza crust. Prick the stretched dough all over with a fork. Heat the skillet on the stove for 2 minutes over medium heat. (This helps the bottom of the crust become crispy).
  4. Remove from heat to assemble the pizza. Brush the crust with olive oil. Spread a thin layer of cashew cream or sprinkle on the grated mozzarella. Top with onion, artichokes, red peppers, tomatoes, and sausage. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the crust is lightly golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Top with dollops of pesto, a drizzle of olive oil, fresh basil, and red pepper flakes.

  2. Add garlic and heat for about 3 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add flour (start with 2 Tbsp), oregano, pepper, and salt. Whisk well.
  4. Add half-and-half, whisking constantly. Cook and stir until bubbly and until thickened (usually about 3 minutes)
  5. Add sauce to pizza crust, followed by toppings.
  6. Cook according to the crust’s instructions.

Grilled BBQ Chicken Pizza

For those who have a grill and want to use it to make yourself a delicious homemade pizza, we suggest this recipe from culinary “scientist” Jessica Gavin.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound pizza dough
  • All-purpose flour
  • Olive oil
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce
  • 1¼ cups mozzarella, shredded
  • ½ cup smoked gouda, shredded
  • ⅓ cup Roma tomato, sliced ¼-inch thick
  • ⅓ cup green bell peppers, sliced ¼-inch thick
  • ⅓ cup red onions, sliced ¼-inch thick
  • ½ cup corn (fresh, canned, or defrosted frozen)
  • 2 slices bacon, cooked, diced
  • 1 cup cooked chicken breast, sliced ¼-inch thick
  • ¼ cup green onions, thinly sliced

Instructions:

  1. On a floured piece of parchment paper in a baking sheet pan, stretch or roll out dough to about 12 inches in diameter. Make sure the bottom of the dough is floured and not sticking to the paper.
  2. Preheat barbecue grill to have all burners on medium-high heat or direct heat if you are using charcoal (try to target 550°F).
  3. Clean grill, then use a folded piece of paper towel to carefully grease the grill grates with a small amount of olive oil to help prevent sticking.
  4. Brush top of dough with olive oil.
  5. Use parchment paper to transfer the dough (oiled-side down) onto the grill; work quickly to stretch the dough into a circle before it sets.
  6. Cover the grill for 2 minutes, then open and check if the bottom of the pizza crust has browned and no longer sticks. The dough may look bubbly.
  7. Cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes, uncovered, if needed.
  8. Turn all of the burners to medium-low.
  9. Flip the dough over and work quickly to add the BBQ sauce, mozzarella, gouda, tomato, bell pepper, onion, corn, bacon, and chicken.
  10. Cover and cook for 4 to 5 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Check the bottom of the crust halfway through to make sure it doesn’t burn.
  12. Top with green onions and more barbecue sauce if desired.
  13. Transfer pizza to a cutting board and cut into slices. Serve immediately.
